Volunteering

We could really use your help

A great hockey season doesn't just happen—it only happens because family members and volunteers step up behind the scenes. From running the clock and helping on the ice to organizing events and supporting our teams, every volunteer plays an important role in creating a positive experience for MYH players and families.

The good news? You don't have to volunteer every weekend. Even helping out once or twice during the season makes a real difference.

The more people who pitch in, the lighter the workload becomes for everyone.

You Don't Need Experience, Just a Willingness to Help!

Never helped to organize a fundraiser or served as an ALD? No problem! Most volunteer roles require little or no experience, and we'll provide the support you need. Whether you can give a few hours on one day sometime or help regularly, every contribution makes a big difference.

MYH Volunteering Requirement Overview

To keep our club, hockey games, and teams operating and to keep hockey fees as low as possible, each family (at mite level and above) must volunteer 7 hours per skater, or 12 hours total, per multi-skater family. The volunteer deposit is $200 per skater, with a maximum total of $400 for two or more skaters. If you meet the required hours, MYH will fully refund your deposit at the end of the winter hockey season. Unfortunately, if you DO NOT meet the season's volunteering requirements, the club will retain your volunteering buyout funds to support club operations, pay for ice time, and replace rental gear.

Our volunteering season officially runs from May 1st to April 30th each year.

There are no volunteering requirements for Learn to Play, Jumpstart!, or 6U Termite skaters (though we still welcome your help!).

Warning: MYH Volunteering May Have Unexpected Side Effects

Helping out at the rink, an event, or a Board meeting has been known to cause:

  1. Meeting other great hockey families and turning familiar Cardinal faces into friends.
  2. Having a reason to cheer for every single team in the club.
  3. Developing a newfound appreciation for everything that happens behind the scenes.
  4. Feeling oddly proud after mastering the scoreboard or Crossbar.
  5. Spontaneous discussions about skate sharpening or goalie pad strapping.
  6. Becoming part of the community that makes hockey happen.
  7. The satisfying feeling of making game day run smoothly.
  8. Building a stronger MYH club and a better experience for every player.

Join our team off the ice!

Our players learn teamwork every time they step onto the ice. They notice when the adults around them work together, too. Volunteering is a chance to meet other families, support your community, and help create memorable experiences for every player.

When everyone contributes a little, our club can accomplish a lot.

Special Volunteering Opportunities

Good Neighbor Fest Beer Tent: Late August, 2026

Who is getting excited to don their Middleton hockey tees, see everyone they've ever known in the community, listen to some great live music, and serve cold beer at Middleton Youth Hockey's epic Beer Tent?! This is the club's largest annual fundraiser, and we always need all hands on deck.

Good Neighbor Fest is a great way to complete your volunteering requirements for the hockey season before it even begins! Please mark your calendars; online sign-ups will be available this summer.

We need certified bartenders for each GNF shift. Middleton Youth Hockey reimburses your online course and temporary bartending license (which is good for 10 days) fees. If you've done the course before, you can renew your certification after 2 years.

We Always Need Volunteers

IF YOU'RE STILL READING - WE STILL NEED YOU! The Middleton Youth Hockey club only functions due to the hard work and energy of our volunteers. Our parents, coaches, managers, board members, and other unpaid volunteers are what keep quality ice hockey happening for Middleton kids. There is no one else...

We're always, always, always looking for more help to improve our programs, the quality of education & competition we can offer our hockey players, communication with our hockey families & community, and more!

We understand that your families are super busy. We know hockey is expensive. We understand that you work, run a household, care for family members, volunteer elsewhere, and so much more! If you can find a few extra hours during the hockey season (or off-season) to help us improve Middleton Youth Hockey, we would love to know more. Please tell us a little more about what interests or excites you about volunteering to improve our ability to serve our hockey players and our community! Email info@middletonyouthhockey.com to learn more. Thank you!

A small commitment makes a big impact

If every family volunteers just a little during the season, no one has to do a lot. By sharing the workload, we can keep programs running smoothly, host great events, and spend less time searching for volunteers and more time cheering on our players.

Thank you for being part of the MYH hockey family—we couldn't do it without you!
