Program Overview
Our Jumpstart! program is an on-ramp for kids who are discovering hockey a little later.
These fundamentals sessions are available for 7- to 12-year-olds who are new to ice hockey or skating. Whether a child hasn't skated at all, or has only skated recreationally, Jumpstart! gives them a supportive, age-appropriate entry point into the amazing sport of hockey.

Jumpstart! will run at either 4:00 pm or 5:10 pm (we haven't decided yet) on Sundays in April & May, except on April 12. MYH will also run a Jumpstart! program for a few months of the summer!

Register your Skater
1) Register your player with USA Hockey. This is required annually.
2) Log in to (or create) your family MYH CrossBar account.
3) Register your player for the season with MYH in CrossBar.
WHY JUMPSTART!?
Older beginners learn differently from 5‑year‑olds. They’re stronger, more coordinated, and more motivated — which means they can improve quickly with the right structure.
Jumpstart! is built around:

By the end of Jumpstart!, players will:
- Skate confidently and safely
- Understand the basic skills of hockey
- Participate in small‑area games
- Feel comfortable joining team practices
- Build friendships and a sense of belonging
- See themselves as hockey players
Program Fees
Jumpstart! Spring: $150 for the April & May season.
Hockey Locations
Practices are held at Bob Suter's Legacy20 Arena in Middleton (aka Capitol Ice Arena) with the possibility of a practice at another local rink as needed (rarely).

Does my skater need a USA Hockey membership?
Yes. All MYH skaters do. Learn more here.
Does my skater need full hockey gear?
Yes. We offer a fantastic gear rental program or you can buy your skater's gear.
My skater is younger than 7 years old. What should we do?
If your new hockey player is 6 or younger, please visit out Learn to Play program. If your skater has experience, we offer our 6U Cross-Ice program.
Jumpstart! - Spring 2026
Our Jumpstart! program is an on-ramp for kids who are discovering hockey a little later.
Your players must be registered with USA Hockey before completing any MYH registration.
MYH will also run a summer Jumpstart! program to prepare kids for winter hockey opportunities.
